Dev:
My name is Dev and I have been working in a BPO industry for the past 6 years and currently performing a role of an Operations Leader for a voice based process. This is a mortgage process and at this time the situation seems to be very bad as the US mortgage industry is down. I am looking for a change and I am looking for a higher position in a bigger company. Please let me know if this is a right thing to do now. Dev

Ans: Dev, it might be better for you to first look at opportunities within your own company. Every company faces business challenges, and these are opportunities to learn and contribute. Many people will quit during such times, but they will never get the opportunity to deal with, and handle tough times. Therefore, they are foregoing an invaluable chance for managerial growth. I would suggest you to move only if you are completely convinced there are no opportunities in your company.

Rajalakshmi: Hello, I am Rajalakshmi.Basically I am a software engineer.I quit my job last year and right now seriously serching for business offers. I saw a few advertisements for call centres and I would like to know abt what actually call centres are and what are the prospects if I have to invest. Expecting your advice, Rajalakshmi.

Ans: Rajalakshmi, it is always better to know as much as possible before investing in any business. There is no business that is easy. Every business requires nurturing, as do call centers. Please speak to someone who is actually running a call center to understand the investments required, operational challenges and business challenges faced by the business. At a recent BPO conference, one of the business leaders mentioned that it would be very difficult for companies with less than 500 seats to survive after next year, when the STPI benefits would go away. You may want to consider this fact.

Anuj Mishra:
Hi i did my graduation from Pol Science and then joined the Bpo industry i want to know as i have spend some time in the international center both as tech support and customer services will it be wise for me to join the domestic center as a team leader...plz let me know what all thing shold i work on Anuj Mishra.

Ans: Anuj, are you ready to be a TL? If you are, it is only a matter of time you become one in your current company. So please have some patience. To become a TL, you will need to demonstrate consistent superior performance in your current role. You will need to demonstrate that you are a team player and some leadership skills. You can demonstrate these every single day by taking on more responsibilities, helping out your colleagues etc. You may also want to keep yourself updated about the latest news by reading newspapers and magazines.

Pankaj:
Dear sir i am working in travels agency but i want to change the job it better me to join bpo in travels trade .pls feedback and tips for a successful career in bpo thanks pankaj.

Ans: pankaj, BPOs can definitely offer you a great career. There are many BPOs that are involved with the travel segment. If you join these companies, you could leverage your experience in the travel field. Some of the companies that work in this field are WNS and Siemens BPO. Apart from these, I am sure there are many other companies. You should visit a job fair, where you can meet representatives of many companies under one roof. Among other skills, they will look for good communication skills.

Ans: Niranjan, there are a few institutes offering courses on intellectual property in India. You could check Global institute of Intellectual Property, NMIMS University, NIIPM, IGNOU etc. for these courses. You should check with these institutions on the course curriculum and then do a comparative analysis. You may also want to get in touch with some lawyers practicing in this field and ask them which course would be best for you.

Sudhir Laxman Damle:

Thanks and Regards
Sudhir Laxman Damle

Ans: Sudhir, there is a lot of scope in the travel segment (including Airlines) in the BPO field. You could approach WNS in Mumbai. My suggestion is not to get too fixed on a particular area as you may not get it immediately. Also, it may make sense to build expertise in multiple areas.

Anil Prakash:

Ans: Anil, you can definitely get a job in the BPO field. There are a special set of BPOs called LPOs (Legal Process Outsourcing). These companies are constantly on the lookout for people with your background. Search for Legal Process Outsourcing on google and you will get many companies engaged in this business. This link., http://www.outsourcing.org/Directory/Legal/, will give you some more companies to look at.

Raghav:
Hi this is Raghav and i am currently working as an Subject Matter Expert in a BPO industry I have a total of 2 years experience in the same.I like this job but my friends say that BPO is not for longrun so i am a bit worried about it What are your views on the future of BPO industry. I am also intersted in Networking do you advice me to switch to a different career then.Waiting for your reply!

Ans: Raghav, I am not sure what your friends have told you, but the BPO industry is here to stay for the long run. Every business will undergo some amount of transformation and so will the BPO industry too. But it will not go away. As of now, the BPO industry employs over 7 Lakh people directly and earns billions of dollars for the country. The industry consists not only of third party service providers, but also captive service providers, who typically have a very long term horizon. Rest assured that the industry will only grow even more. My suggestion is for you to stay back and grow in the industry. Changing at this point will mean that you need to restart your career. Do think about it.
